What happened to Sangeeth Sivan?

Sangeeth Sivan was earlier admitted to a private hospital in Mumbai, where he was getting treated for his illness. Unfortunately, Sangeeth Sivan succumbed to his illness and took his last breath on May 8, 2024.

Who was Sangeeth Sivan?

Sangeeth Sivan completed his studeis at MG College and Mar Ivanios College before entering the show business and training under his father. He was a well known director and screenwriter who worked in both Malayalam and Hindi film Industry. He entered the Indian film industry as he co-produced Aditya Bhattacharya’s action packed movie, Raakh. The movie’s cast included Aamir Khan, Pankaj Kapur ad Supriya Pathak.

Sangeeth Sivan caught up to fame and popularity when he directed the blockbuster Malayalam film and Mohanlal stareer Yodha in 1992. He also directed two more movies with Mohanlal which got nationwide acclaim namely Gandharvam (1993) and Nirnayam (1995). He directed other Malayalam include Vyooham (1990) which is his directorial debut, and Johnny (1993) for which he received the Kerala State Film Award for Best Children’s Film.

Sangeeth Sivan has also contributed significantly towards the Hindi film industry, some of his directions include Zor (1998), Chura Liyaa Hai Tumne (2003), Kya Kool Hai Hum (2005), Apna Sapna Money Money (2006), Ek: The Power of One (2009), Click (2010) and Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 (2013).

Sangeeth Sivan last left off directorial venture is Kapkapii starring Shreyas Talpade and Tushar Kapoor, which is a remake of the horror- comedy Malayalam film Romancham.

Unfortunately, due to the illness that affected him, Sangeeth Sivan passes away at 61. The film industry has had a huge loss as they have lost one of the best film makers of the industry. Sangeeth Sivan will always be remember in the hearts of the people who are close to him.

Many celebrities took to social media to give their condolences to Sangeeth Sivan’s family. First one to do so was Riteish Deshmukh who tweeted ” Deeply saddened and shocked to know that Sangeeth Sivan Sir is no more. As a newcomer all you want is someone to believe in you and take a chance.. can’t thank him enough for Kya Kool Hai Hum & Apna Sapna Money Money. Soft Spoken, gentle and a wonderful human being. Am heart broken today, my deepest condolences to his family and loved ones, his wife, kids, brothers. I will miss you Da!!!!! And your infectious laughter!!! Rest in Glory….”

Film critic Joginder Tuteja also took to X (formerly twitter) to say a few words about the late director. He wrote “Sangeeth Sivan – The filmmaker whom I remember not just for Apna Sapna Money Money and Kya Kool Hai Hum but also a lesser known but well made horror flick, Click! The first man in the industry to call me Jog! RIP Sangeeth. Your unique (animated) speaking style will be remembered!

The association wrote”Indian Film and TV directors Association mourns the demise of Veteran Malayalam Filmmaker Sangeeth Sivan. We pray to the almighty to bless his noble soul and give courage to his bereaved family to bear the irreplaceable loss.
