Donald Sutherland’s Acting Career
Donald Sutherland began his career in the acting industry by appearing during his time of study at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) . His career in the 60’s began by acting in small side roles in British Based movies and TV shows such as hotel receptionist in the Sentimental Agent – episode ” A Very Desirable Plot”. He has even featured in one of the best horror films during his time along side Christopher Lee such as Dr Terror’s House of Horrors ( 1965) and Castle of the Living (1964).
Donald Sunderland soon started earning praises and earing a name for himself after his role as Vernon L. Pinkley in The Dirty Dozen (1967). The movie starred some of the most famous actors of that time namely Charles Bronson, Lee Marvin, Ernest Borgnine, and John Cassavetes. The movie was not just a hit among the people but also became the top grossing movie in 1967 as well as earning the title of MGM’s highest grossing movie of the year. This movie was more like a lift in his carrer after which he went on to do several other movies including MASH (1970) and award winning movie thriller movie Klute (1971) alongside Jane Ford.
With a growth in his acting career and soon establishing himself as one of the most prominent actors of the 80’s, he began going roles which turned his name into a household one such as Lock Up (1989) with Sylvester Stallone and A serious drama A Dry White Season (1989).
